South Node

Familiar territory. Past patterns and known terrain.

Definition

The South Node is the point directly opposite the North Node in the natal chart, where the Moon's orbit crosses the ecliptic moving south. Like the North Node, it is a calculated point rather than a physical body.

In context

The South Node represents the familiar, the inherited patterns, the territory the soul already knows well. It is sometimes described as a place of comfort that can become a trap, since over-reliance on the South Node tends to stall the growth that the North Node is calling toward. The two nodes are read together as a single axis of soul direction.
