The Big Three

Sun, Moon, and Rising. The three pillars of the chart.

Definition

The big three is a common shorthand for the three most important placements in a natal chart, the Sun sign, the Moon sign, and the Rising sign. Knowing all three gives a much fuller picture of a person than the Sun sign alone.

In context

The Sun describes the central curriculum, the Moon describes the inner emotional life, and the Rising describes the way you arrive in a room. Reading the three together captures how a person presents, how they actually feel, and what they are here to learn. Calculating all three requires an accurate birth date, time, and place.
